In a brief neighborhood adventure I explored the brick buildings surrounding the shipyard just two blocks from my front door. Interesting doors have traditionally been my true attraction to architecture. It is a long love following stickers on street signs and varying tile textures. This particular photo shoot led me away from my normal inspiration and down the red brick road.
A shipyard isn’t a traditional backyard. For Helsinki, shipyards, docks, and dozens of water front areas border the metro region. It is simple to fall in love with the shipyard environment if you have the taste for all things urban.
The ironic part about this shipyard in particular, are the contrasts occupying the environment. During my walk around I passed trendy moms pushing strollers, millennial start up employees, yogis, graphic designers, and urban clothing companies. Not the common culture that built this area so many years ago.
It is this contrast of circumstances that has evolved my love for Helsinki, and specifically my neighborhood. I truly am at a loss for words to express how much this neighborhood means to me. A place so unique whilst consistently evolving day after day, year after year, it is a corner of the world I have throughly enjoyed calling home.
