Meet the Unity Pin. A new symbol for the modern day activist. It should be no surprise that the author of Nasty Trash is, in fact, a nasty woman. I found Unity Pin recently, but the story goes back a few months to get to the beginning.
In November 2016, my sister and I were having various conversations about what kind of symbol would be appropriate to unite and empower the people. Fast forward to a few months later, and a couple scrapped ideas, my sister introduced me to the Unity Pin. And this summer, in a kind and very generous care package from Johnson City Tennessee, I received my very own gifted pin.
This little symbol, this little pin, works quietly but speaks volumes for positive change. The designers behind the pin organized that the proceeds of each pin sold go to the support of the ACLU, NPR, and Planned Parenthood. In hockey, that is called a hat trick. All three are resources which provide a positive influence within their communities.
I am proud to wear this pin. I am proud to explore the new information provided by National Public Radio. I am proud to recognize the access to safe healthcare that can be found at Planned Parenthood. I am proud to know the American Civil Liberties Union works to defend justices and dismantle inequalities. I am proud to be a nasty woman.
