Post 59…

This week I am sharing my current obsession, the ultimate green smoothie! For the past couple of weeks, I have been trying to have one of these bad boys daily. This smoothie has everything too, antioxidants, immune boosting, vitamin galore, green goodness! I tweaked this recipe down to two main factors, one, gotta get your greens every day, and two I need to take care of my joints. If you are interested in trying this smoothie yourself, simply use the infographic I have added at the bottom of the post!

Not pictured are the two most important ingredients, in my opinion, turmeric and cayenne. From what I have read online, these two help joint inflamation. And after drinking this little cocktail for a few weeks, I really notice a difference. I am a huge advocate for eating your vitamins and minerals. Supplements in the pill form are fine and well, but when you can eat what you need, to me it brings the wellness process full circle.

I also prefer my smoothies extra large! This might be a habit from my childhood, but I think things are better when served in a mason jar. So it is a must to make this thing bigger and better. Fortunately, my Vitamix is up for the job. This blender is one of the best purchases I have made in my adult life. Investing in the kitchen can seem a bit boring on the surface, but when it affects your everyday life, there is no going back.

Finally, I would like to address the two unique ingredients. One is the green powder I use. This is a subtle step towards making any smoothie a well-rounded addition to healthy living. I also add nettle. This is new to me as it is a Finnish resource. Ladies, this is packed with iron! I highly recommend you add this to your diet if you are like me and struggle with keeping the iron levels in your body stable.

Besides all the benefits of this fully loaded drink, one of my favorite side effects is the pure joy it brings to my day. I am not a fan of wearing colors, nor do I live somewhere that is vibrant in technicolor nature, so a bright green smoothie like this sure boosts my mood. Top it off with my little reusable straw, and it is a moment of bliss all to myself.

Have a great weekend, and thank you for reading!

IMG_2401.jpgI am posting a little late today but in full festive spirit! Christmas trees have come to the city, and I have been anxiously awaiting to decorate. The inspiration struck a few weeks back to do an entire biodegradable tree. This may sound odd to some, but seasonal ornaments do not take high priority in our small studio storage.

IMG_2440.jpg

Biodegradable is not a term that usually pairs with Christmas. Yet, my 2018 resolution is to take conscious steps towards a zero waste lifestyle, and I want to get a jump start with the holiday season. It did not take long for my imagination to explore all the possibilities. The traditional stringing of popcorn and dehydrated orange slices to decorate are my ornaments of choice. Below the tree is a variety of recycled papers used to wrap presents.

Although decorating a tree only takes one hand, the other hand is best used with a cocktail in it. I have been saving my new copper mugs for a special occasion. Gifted to me in a care package from my mother, what better way to get in the festive mood than with a holiday Moscow mule.

I hope, no matter what you celebrate, that your year is coming to a humble end. May the last days of December be spent with those you love in warm places, and may the year to come be promising and bright.

Thanks for reading!

Dear readers, this is a public service announcement: You are official being introduced to The Big Four!

What is The Big Four? It includes the basic essentials to any conscious lifestyle. Most of us are well aware of the impact our waste has on the planet, but no matter your current lifestyle, the big four can help save us all!

IMG_1344.jpg

First is the shopping bag. To my American readers, this is still a new shift for part of the country, for everyone else, you are already aware of the importance (also because certain countries and stores charge extra for a plastic bag). This particular bag I picked up years ago visiting Jyväskylä Finland. Hence the foreign script across the side, reading “goodbye to the plastic bag”.

Second in the line up is the coffee mug. If it is absolutely critical that you must take your drink to go, be prepared.  I know Keep Cup is a very popular brand amongst baristas these days, although I just use this adorable porcelain one I picked up at Tiger for less than 3 euros. A little more trusting than glass, and a little more cozy than plastic. An alternative recommendation is to simply make time for your coffee or tea, sit down, and enjoy!

The third is the water bottle. Y’all, stay hydrated! My current source of hydration is the Memo bottle. I have previously mentioned this bottle on the blog and I am still in love with it. The sleek design is so helpful for backpack styles, and overall space saving investment.

Last but not least, is the reusable straw. I’ve been walking around my house for weeks ranting about how straws are the new plastic bag. Be it a viral image of a straw entangled in a sea animals body, or just the fact you might be a nervous chewer, a metal straw is a game changer. I got 4 stainless steel straws + pipe cleaner off amazon.

Finally a Trash Tip for those of you interested in doing a little more, keeping reusable cutlery and Tupperware! Toss it in your bag whilst around town and if you are picking up a pastry to-go, or have leftover lunch, a little preparation goes a long way.

So there it is folks, The Big Four! You can no longer say you did not know or wonder what it is you can do to be a better citizen on the planet. I share this post today because I am already making the personal paradigm shift for 2018 resolutions. I will confess I am not perfect, but all it takes is the mental awareness to change an ignorant habit to an educated lifestyle.
